GP Trainees at Our Practice
GP Trainees at Our Practice
We are a training practice, which means we help support and develop the next generation of family doctors. You may see one of our trainee doctors during your appointment. They are all fully qualified doctors; the difference is what stage of GP training they are at. An experienced GP supervises every trainee in our practice.
Foundation Year 2 Doctor (FY2)
- A qualified doctor in their second year after finishing medical school.
- They spend time in both hospitals and GP surgeries to gain experience.
- They always have a senior GP available to support them.
Speciality Trainee Year 1 (ST1)
- A doctor who has chosen General Practice as their career.
- This is their first year of GP specialist training.
- They work closely with a supervising GP while they learn the ropes of primary care.
Speciality Trainee Year 2 (ST2)
- Now in their second year of GP training.
- They are more confident in managing a wide range of conditions but are still supported by senior GPs.
Speciality Trainee Year 3 (ST3)
- Their final year of GP training before becoming a fully qualified GP.
- They see patients more independently but continue to have supervision and regular support.
